Scrubs Episode of the Moment: My Way Home

"My Way Home" is the episode of the moment because I am in the process of transferring back to the South hopefully and being in Philadelphia away from the comforts of familiarity and away from Emily and her going through some of the same stuff in the DR and others of my friends dealing with other crucial situations like job searching, distance, and relationships...

In this episode, JD has the day off but keeps getting sucked into staying around the hospital to help his friends out...

The episode plays off of The Wizard of Oz and does so beautifully...through hardships @ the hospital, Turk, Elliot, and Carla end up needing a heart, brains, and courage respectively and Ted's band (which is a real acapella group) does a nice rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" for background music

Turk is in a contest with all of the surgeons to see who gets to assist in the hospitals first ever heart transplant using the heart of patient in a coma, in the process the parents of the patient become enraged and ask Turk for the truth, he tells them and in return for his honesty the reward him..

Elliot returns from her fellowship and Dr. Cox finally figures out how she has so many hot shot answers and puts her on the spot to direct a seminar after he finds out she hides answers and tips around the hospital (i.e. bedpans, tissue boxes, etc) ...

Carla freaks out about having kids after taking care of Jack (Dr. Cox and Jordan's son) for the day and realizing that she hates kids and doesnt understand how Dr. Cox and Jordan do it so well...

this is also one of my top 5 Scrubs episodes, im pretty sure this episode is from season 5, enjoy

When the rich wage war its the poor that die...

The song of the moment right now is Linkin Park's "Hands Held High"

this song has a great blend of the eclecticsm that the band is known and acclaimed for, if you want a song to spark you to get off your bum and do something productive for the world then take a second to listen to this song...

this song also mentions one of my favorite quotes from Jean-Paul Sartre which is the title of this blog

hope you enjoy it

The Crazy DR

Hey guys! It's been two weeks since I arrived here in the Dominican Republic and I have to say it's crazier than I ever could have imagined. I think using the public transportation here is probably one of the most dangerous things I've ever done. Eventually I'll get some pics of what the public transportation looks like so you can fully understand the craziness of the drivers here. Let's just say these cars have seen their better days long ago, when they still had things that aren't really necessary here like rear view mirrors and door handles. And I haven't really figured out what red lights here mean. I mean i think they mean stop, but it's rare that anybody actually does.

Anyways, on with my life here in the DR. So you can get a feel of what it's like being a student living with a family here, here's a picture of my cozy little room:

Pretty nice, right? You expected a straw hut and a dirt floor? Not quite. Although that's not to say everybody here lives like this. There's a huge gap between the poor and the rich- I mean no shocker, it's like that most places. I live in a nice little apartment with my host mom and her 23 year old daughter. They're super nice and try to make me feel as much at home as I possibly can in a country where I'm oceans away from my family, friends and the love of my life. Oh and don't fail to notice over there on the bed, Johnny Storm the bunny! He keeps me company here. Oh also notice the tv, on which I am able to watch all the new episodes of Grey's (ok so maybe I have become a little addicted...) and all the Law and Order re-runs I can take. My Dona never fails to remind me that the students aren't supposed to have tv's in their rooms, but she's not like the other host moms. I feel like I'm in middle school all over again. She drops me off places and I always have to let her know what I'm doing. It's really best that way though, walking places after dark is a huge no-no here.

I realize I'm starting to ramble here, and most people are only going to look at the pictures anyways, so here's a couple more pics with some briefer captions.

This is the ruins of an old Dominican sugar plantation. They re-constructed half to show what it would have looked like originally and left half in ruins to show the wear of time.

Here's the first beach I visited in the DR. The first of many to come. This is Playa Pelenque and is pretty rural without any real touristy attractions. For about $1.50 you can ride an inflatable banana boat being pulled by motor boat. Pretty fun and a great way to get the full beauty of the coastline.

Ok-this was incredibly impressive. Yes, that's a bottle of rum that girl is dancing on top of. And yes, you should be jealous. This restaurant, El Conuco, is incredibly touristy with the dancing on rum and what not, but the food was good and authentic Dominican cuisine. An unbeatable combination!

Only In America...

Only In America....

......do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front

......do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a DIET coke

......do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters

......do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage

......do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

......do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'

......do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

Happy New Year...The Best of 2007

Happy New Year Procrastinators...

The time has come to pick the bests of the year, I will usually do this around every month but since the year is ending it seemed fitting...First let me explain that these are not necesarily songs, people, movies, etc. from this year, they are however those things that I liked the most this year or that I have indentified with the most, so I will now introduce my partner in these crimes...Patrick Crawford from South Carolina (Clemson University)

nice GQ pic Patty...

the first list of these are mine the second post is Patrick's picks so I will begin with...

Song of the Year: "Alive With the Glory of Love" - Say Anything

this was the hardest pick for me because all of these songs at some point were the top song but this song by Say Anything reminds us of our invincibility that we once had and that some of us still have, the days of football fridays and now of football saturdays, the days of going to the mall in a group of 15 people and not buying anything, eating 5 burgers before soccer practice and 5 more afterwards and still being the most in shape people in school, waking up @ 7 am for 7 pm football games on saturdays and backyard parties...
